Google Fonts is one of the best and most convenient resources to find awesome free fonts to use on your blog. All fonts are completely free to use and easy to install, and work on any blogging platform (as long as you can edit some CSS). Unfortunately there are tons of fonts there and you can spend your entire day picking and choosing fonts that you think might work! Save yourself some time and effort, check out some of my favorite font combinations. I’ve selected 6 different Google font pairings that are great for lifestyle bloggers. These fonts range from fun and whimsical to elegant and refined. You can find all of fonts I’ve mentioned here.
The Keys to Font Pairing
The main ideas to keep in mind when selecting your fonts is to select fonts that compliment each other. You want your fonts to contrast with each other. That means Thin fonts with thick fonts, hand written fonts with clean, modern fonts, serif fonts with sans-serif fonts. This can also include font weight, for example I use Raleway in much of my branding. I particularly like to use both Raleway thin and Raleway Regular, or Raleway Regular and Raleway Heavy. You will notice this throughout the pairings I’ve shown below. Notice Amatic SC Regular is thin and narrow, in contrast to Josefin sans, which is also thin, but isn’t as narrow, and has a much cleaner & modern look and feel.
You also want to keep in mind legibility. Handwritten fonts look really nice, but for long paragraphs they are not easy to read! Use overly ornate as accent fonts, or on headings. Avoid using these types of fonts on paragraph text.
Google Font Pairings for Lifestyle Bloggers:
Amatic SC & Josefin Sans
Amatic is the perfect font for a lifestyle blogger whose brand is fun, kid friendly or whimsical. Josefin Sans on the other hand is modern and clean. It provides a strong contrast to Amatic. It’s a perfect font for the paragraph text of a blog since it’s so easy to read.
Satisfy & Open Sans
Satisfy is another fun font. It’s a little sassy and perfect for the feminine lifestyle blogger who wants to have a little fun with their brand. Open Sans is another clean and modern font that makes reading easy for readers. In addition to bringing a modern feel to the set it also balances the thicker Satisfy with a thinner font.
Lora Regular & Muli Light
Lora is a more traditional feeling serif font. It’s perfect for any type of lifestyle blogger, especially ones with a more traditional or classical blog. Muli is modern and clean. It contrasts with the heavier, traditional Lora. Muli light in particular is much thinner than Lora, offering more contrast, which is why I selected the light version of the font instead of regular.
Playfair Display SC & Raleway
Playfair Display SC is full on timeless traditional. Raleway is one of the most popular modern and clean sans-serif fonts. They are the perfect combination for the blogger looking for a timeless brand that has both traditional and modern influences.
Julius Sans One & Libre Baskerville
This is another twist on classical vs modern. Julius Sans is a very elegant, clean and modern font, while Libre Baskerville is about as traditional as they come! Together they are a perfect match, ready for any elegant lifestyle blogger brand.
Voltaire Regular & Gentium
I selected Voltaire Regular to show that sans-serif fonts aren’t all slim & modern. Voltaire is thick and has attitude, it’s just out of the ordinary enough to really strike an impact. Gentium keeps things from getting too crazy with a thin & traditional serif font. This font pairing is perfect for the lifestyle blogger whose got a little attitude and isn’t afraid to show it!
Changing the fonts on your blog can create a huge impact! Google Font pairings offer everything your brand might need from fun and whimsical fonts to traditional to sleek and modern! There is a font for every blogger!
